After the Peenemünde Army Research Centre was bombed on the night of 17-18th August, there was great fear of further attacks. It quickly became clear that the A4 rocket needed to be manufactured somewhere remote and inconspicuous from the air. The Peenemünde Nazi regime soon found seemingly the most suitable location to mass produce their retribution weapon: the Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp. In record time, an unremarkable mountain tunnel in the heart of Germany was transformed into a mass-production facility for a terrorist weapon that was to kill thousands more in the following years. Forced labourers and concentration camp prisoners were transported from all over Europe to the production site to work and live there under the most unworthy conditions.
