On Wednesday 20th March 2019 we went to the border triangle Les Trios Frontières, where the borders of Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium come together. The borderline divides the countries Germany and Luxembourg in the river Our. There’s also a wooden bridge connecting Germany and Belgium. Only a few meters apart there is the monument of Europe, which symbolizes the unity and the removal of the borders.
Before World War I, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Neutral-Moresnet came together at the quadripoint near Aachen. From 1816 until 1919, Neutral-Moresnet was an independent, neutral Country. At the Congress of Vienna, Prussia and the Netherlands were quarreling over the Galmei mines in this region. A solution has not been found, so they decided to creat a neutral zone. This zone was managed by the Netherlands and Prussia. After the defeat of Germany in World War I, Neutral-Moresnet became a part of Belgium. Since that, it is no Quadripoint anymore but a Tripoint, where the three Countries Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands come together. Nowadays you could visit the much frequented border stone, two watch towers, restaurants and other attractions.

At the former prussian border station stands a memorial to the children transports.
The monument is life size. You can see four children, they make a lost impression and you can see that they have a feeling between fear and hope.
With the help of the monument, it is easy to see how the children felt at the time. It is difficult to imagine the circumstances today. In the background of that
There are still two original german wagons, with which children were transported, which is even more illustrated.
Belgium alone took in a thousand Jewish children from the German Reich.
Other countries such as Greatbritain, the Netherlands and Switzerland also welcomed jewish children. However, some countries did not accept children because it was said that when the children come, their parents come after.
In total, more than 15,500 jewish children survived thanks to the children transports.
The monument was inaugurated on the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27, 2019.
Historian Mr. H.Ruland supported the construction of this monument.
